TERRITORIAL MODEL

The municipality of Forcarei occupies, in the north-central area of the province of Pontevedra, a total surface area of 167.7 km2, with an average altitude of 625 m. The highest peaks in Forcarei are monte Seixo (1,014 m), in the serra do Cando, Alto de A Ruza (902 m), in the parroquia da Madanela, monte Custoia (951 m), in Pardesoa and Alto de San Benito (1,017 m), in the serra do Candán.

The rivers Vergudo, Umia and Lérez rise in these lands of leafy carballeiras, holly trees, slopes and centenary chestnut trees.

The N-541 and the PO-534 are the backbone of the territory, connecting us with the nearest towns and the capital of the province and the industrial estates of Vilapouca and Cachafeiro are the main drivers of economic dynamism, together with the agricultural and livestock sector.

People over 45 years of age, with 89 unemployed, are the age group most affected by unemployment, followed by those between 25 and 44 years of age with 56 unemployed, the least numerous group being those under 25 years of age with 7 unemployed.

By sectors we see that the service sector has the highest number of unemployed in the municipality with 92 unemployed, followed by construction with 24 unemployed, industry with 17 unemployed, people without previous employment with 14 unemployed and, finally, agriculture with 5 unemployed.

  • Occasionally and attracted by the offer of the Astronomical Observatory, we met people from the main cities of Galicia, with an interest in scientific tourism. Also schools, institutes and universities.
