A Madalena Karting Circuit
The Karting Circuit of A Madalena arises as a project that responds to a leisure demand that every day is booming, as well as being a revitalizing element of the town of Forcarei.
We see that every day more and more young people, and not so young, are signing up for a way of feeling and enjoying their leisure time related to the world of motor sports. This is why it is necessary to provide services adapted to the safe and healthy practice of this sport.
The City Council tries, as far as possible, to satisfy the needs of the residents by implementing projects that can transform these desires into a tangible reality.
The circuit
In the case of this Circuit, carried out thanks to the economic support given by the “Excelentísima Deputación de Pontevedra“, the generosity shown by the “Comunidad de Montes de la Madanela”, who gave part of the land on which it is located, is also “partly to blame”. Without this contribution the project of the cricuit would remain just that, “in project”, since one can have the intention and the desire to do things, but without means and resources one cannot achieve the ends.
It is true that the love of motorsport in this municipality goes back a long way, since in the place of Soutelo de Montes for a long time, one of the tests of the Galician Karting Championship in an urban layout, which boosted the Escudería Soutelo Motor, and in which it ran Julio Iglesias, who obtained remarkable results participating in youth categories.
Time proved them right in terms of the objectives to be achieved with this initiative:
On the one hand, it offers people a place where they can enjoy motor sport, both amateur and professional. It is not in vain that this circuit is part of the Galician Karting Championship calendar, and in 2008 alone, 3 rounds of the Championship were held here (27th April, 3rd August and 29th September), as well as being the venue for one of the rounds of the Challenge a Gas de Karting 2008 (27th April), a national event organised by the Cantabrian company PTR-FERROSITE, which is sponsored by, amongst others REPSOL GAS.
The impact
On the other hand, the area is also given an important dynamising spirit. as this circuit attracts to the place an increasing number of fans willing to enjoy not only the track but also the diverse tourist offer of the council: rural tourism, hiking trails, as well as the tourist offer of the neighbouring municipalities and counties, as the strategic geographical location of Forcarei, made the council the best location for Karting: the network of road infrastructures and the proximity to the main demographic centres is an advantage of the municipality: it is connected with Ourense, Lugo, a few kilometres from the capital, Pontevedra, bordering with Lalín and with very good roads towards Santiago. It is also located in the centre of the Deza-Tabeirós-Terra de Montes sub-region.
This is a very useful project with great social and economic repercussions for Forcarei. The complex has aroused the interest of more than one car manufacturer as a venue for the presentation of their models. It is also suitable for the teaching of “safe driving” courses, as well as any other type of teaching that driving schools may wish to provide, in addition to the holding of a wide range of competitions: Karting, Formula 1, Superbikes, Granturismos, Formula 3000 and motorcycling championships, for example.
